Does this book look familiar at all? Well, if it does...you might of already seen 500 Days of Summer.

Not every movie can have a happy ending. This is that kind of movie.

I think it was a good film, but not great. Its a little complicated, for me at least.

Cupcake Royale: Lemon Drop, Coconut Bunny, or Peppermint Party?

“I sorta felt the love all around. Did you notice that all of the employees seemed to love being there? “ said Zachary from Seattle on a review about the new hot spot for cupcakes. One thing that is fascinating about Seattle are the coffee shops that are in every corner of every street. Whether its walking your dog, or just going out for a nice walk especially during these lovely summer days, its very unlikely to not stop at a coffee shop on the way. And if you haven't visited Seattle, just to note: the streets are incredibly pedestrian-friendly. A new café except this time serving cupcakes hits the neighborhood of Capitol Hill at 11th and Pike. Cupcake Royale features delicious cupcakes and great art as well. Actually, on the grand opening day of this past July 22nd, Cupcake Royale were handing out free mini-size “Strawberry 66” to their customers. The 66 represents the percentage amount of ingredients that are sourced locally in Washington. Along with their delicious cupcakes, Cupcake Royale is designed by Roy McMakin, a Seattle-based artist and a friend of owner, Jody Hall who designed impressive furniture for the store. Inside it's shiny and splattered with accents of pink yet still retaining a much likable grandmother feel with a bit of a modern twist. In the front, a stained glass cupcake greets visitors as they walk in. The shop serves a variety of flavors from classic vanilla to flavors like lavender, lemon and mint. This is Cupcake Royale's 4th location and best yet. Next time you're in Seattle just look for those big bright pink neon writing and you'll run yourself (unregretfully) into Cupcake Royale!

Back in 944 January’s issue of this year, we wrote an article ‘V is For Vanguard’, entrepreneurs that lead the visionary new school of cool. Out of the sixteen entrepreneurs that were listed, one of them by the name of Rob Kalin came to mind this past weekend. Kalin is the Co-Founder & Board Member of Etsy.com. Honored to meet a couple of the staff members at the Etsy booth this past event at San Francisco’s Renegade Craft Fair including Jesse who works with the business development for Etsy, the Renegade Craft Fair is the largest do-it-yourself arts and crafts fair held with more than 200 artists around the country coming into the bay area after making its stops around Chicago, Brooklyn, and Los Angeles. The fair was first started in Chicago of 2003 and has continued to put on the most exciting event in the arts & crafts. Sue Daly, who was first introduced to crafting by her mom, is one of the brilliants behind the fair. With designing jewelry (www.timberhandmade.com) she also runs Renegade Handmade shop in Chicago, where people can find handmade items for sale from all over. A lot of these handmade items have been seen on Etsy and for those who aren’t familiar with Etsy (which I wouldn’t understand why not, it is one of New York’s most talked about tech start-ups) it is a site where more than 500,000 sellers are registered to sell their creative makings and only employs about 50 people! Like mentioned in our January issue, with more than two million sales in 2008 alone. Their vision is simple, Buy, Sell, and Live Handmade. Pretty similar to that of Renegade Craft Fair only that Renegade puts on THE show like no other! San Francisco’s Renegade Craft Fair was held at the old, much appreciated Fort Mason Center this past weekend (July 18th & 19th). It had its handmade clothing, accessories, plush creatures, mustaches, face painting (callepompon.blogspot.com), piano cyclists…anything you can imagine creative & handmade! LAMC in NYC

The 10th annual Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC), a global event comes back to New York, a raging five day event. The festival brings together musicians and businesspeople who are dedicated to Latin Alternative and features exhibitions, concerts, parties, and art. Magazines that participated were Billboard, Alternative Press, Latina Magazine, La Banda Elastica along with well-known U.S. and Latino labels, new media companies and agencies. The conference serves as a global event since the most prestigious latino labels are in fact coming from around the globe, South America and Spain to be exact. This year about 1,400 people participated, which is pretty steady as far as bringing it about in this recession. Along with some of the bands across the Americas and Spain, Calle 13, a Puerto Rican hip-hop and reggaetón group performed as well as the Colombian group called Bomba Estéreo that play psychedelic cumbia. Bomba Estereo's (pictured above) goal is to bring in their tradition as fun, danceable Colombian rhythmn, champeta with reggae backbeats. Plenty of other musicians performed such as Curumin, a singer from São Paulo, Brazil that includes a bass & drum beat with a traditional 1980's samba-soul. Los Deliqüentes, from Spain, played wry flamenco-pop that included passages for kazoo. Maluca, from New York City, opened up with a techno-merengue-hip-hop dance beat. A more popular musician, Manu Chao, a French born singer of Spanish was also at the conference. Manu Chao sings in Spanish, French, English, Arabic and Portuguese! Sometimes even in more languages.
Tomas Cookman who founded LAMC together with Josh Norek, said “It's not going to be (Latin Alternative) exploding tomorrow and then gone nine months later. It's not about one song, one band, one dance, move, one fashion...we don't need our Macerena moment.” And it sure isn't going to be the, “Next big thing”, but surely it will continue its progress in having more of a bilingual audience here in the states.
