On the recent note of Domino Magazine, in the last issue of January 09/Dec.08, its wish list included Ernst Haeckel's Art Forms in Nature. For those who don't know who Ernst Haeckel (1834-1919) was, he was all of the following...German Biologist, naturalist, philosopher, physician, professor, and an artist himself. He was passionate about the evolutionary shaping of biological forms, but what is amazing about this book is that he captures both the artistic sensibilities and the scientific facts on all biological forms. He still influences both artists and designers to this day.
A more updated and recent copy could be found at Amazon.
there is also a documentary on Haeckel, called Proteus
directed by David Lebrun (PLEASE! to not get confused with this Proteus film)(original copy of Art Forms...)
From reading about Ernst Haeckel, and seeing a recent update on fecalface about the Jonathan LeVine Gallery and Choque Cultural Gallery in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Heakel's work reminded me very much of Mr. Adam Wallacavage who showed in Brazil recently. Wallacavage has some extraordinary work. He uses cast plaster to work on his chandeliers, and I wouldn't even tell the difference really. It is a medium that he is familiar working with and comes up with the most bizarre, yet remarkable chandeliers (from $2,000 +). All of the print that is associated with the pictures are his as well, his own wallpaper he makes.
Very victorian.

Its strange, I am not an obsessive person, but I would say on the artwork of Adam Wallacavage and the artwork of Ernst Haeckel i am.
And the one other dream I have in my future is to have my very own haunted themed house for me to live in.
this blog makes extremely happy.
